Housing Development

As a candidate for 13th Ward Alderman, Tamir Bell is committed to tackling the housing crisis that continues to affect Rockford’s West Side. Affordable housing is not just about providing a roof over people’s heads—it’s about fostering safe, stable, and thriving communities. Tamir believes in revitalizing our neighborhoods with a focus on inclusive growth that benefits everyone.Tamir supports initiatives that bring a mix of affordable and market-rate housing, ensuring that all residents, regardless of income, have access to quality homes. He advocates for projects that include community spaces, like early learning centers, culinary institutes, and green spaces, which not only improve the quality of life but also stimulate local economies. By working with developers, local organizations, and residents, Tamir aims to create long-term solutions that address housing insecurity, promote workforce development, and encourage investment in the West Side.

In the 13th Ward, Tamir envisions a future where every resident has access to a safe, affordable place to call home, and where our community thrives through collaboration and innovation.

Food Access

Access to healthy food and proper nutrition is essential for the well-being of every individual, especially for children and young people. Good nutrition is directly linked to better health, higher educational performance, and improved quality of life. Yet, in many communities, including Rockford, food insecurity remains a serious challenge, with families and youth struggling to access the resources they need to stay healthy and thrive.

For young people, access to nutritious food is particularly critical. A balanced diet supports brain development, improves concentration, and enhances academic performance. Without reliable access to meals or snacks throughout the day, students may struggle to focus in school, impacting their learning and overall success. This creates a cycle of disadvantage that affects not only the individual but the entire community.

Community Empowerment

Tamir’s approach to community empowerment involves fostering leadership at every level, especially among young people.  Tamir knows firsthand that age is not a barrier to making a meaningful impact. He encourages youth to step into positions of influence, organize around issues that matter to them, and use their voices to create change.

By supporting grassroots initiatives, fostering local leadership, and ensuring that every voice is heard, Tamir is working to build a Rockford where residents are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to advocate for themselves and their neighbors.

Tamir’s vision for community empowerment includes initiatives such as:

  • Youth Leadership Development: Creating programs that teach young people how to advocate for their communities, run for office, and lead with integrity.
  • Engaging Local Leaders: Building strong relationships with grassroots organizations, local businesses, and faith-based groups to address issues at the community level.
  • Accessible Resources: Making sure that every resident has the support and opportunities they need to succeed—whether through education, job opportunities, or community-building projects.
